Ian Dunbar talks about how dogs become shelter dogs. The message in this short video is vital for anyone who is getting or has a puppy, works with shelter or rescue dogs, or anyone considering adopting a shelter or rescue dog. (Photo credit: bk2000)
Not Enjoying Your Dog as Much as You’d Like?

When you first get a dog, you’re excited. You’ve always wanted to have a dog. You’re sure this is going to be the perfect addition to your household, and you’ll enjoy the companionship and the constant affection a dog offers, something you’ve wanted in your life for a long time.
A few weeks later, you’re at your wit’s end. Your dog won’t listen to your commands. Training seems impossible. He keeps chewing the furniture, barking at passersby or pulling hard on his leash. Maybe he’s even snapped at your neighbor’s toddler.
You find yourself frustrated with your dog and apologizing for his behavior all the time, but you have no idea how to make it better.
You’re starting to think maybe you just got the wrong dog.
